Educational Project helps teenage girl win holiday for two.

Dr Kev Robinson, Emma and Aunt Anita Gackowska In a last minute attempt to put together a project on an environmental issue, Emma White contacted Dr Kevin Robinson of the Cetacean Research (& Rescue) Unit for advice and help. With only 7 days in which to complete the project she became engrossed in dolphins and learnt a great deal from the CRRU. She was even able to go out in the research boat with Dr Robinson and view at close quarters the dolphins in their natural habitat.

As a result of her time with the CRRU, Emma was able to write a scientific and factually informative project based on her own experiences. Her project was entered into the national UK competition sponsored by Glaxo, who notified her by e-mail that she had won one of the 4 runner-up prizes. Her prize was a week for herself and a friend at an environmental discovery centre in Dorset and a bronze otter shield and certificate.

The CRRU is proud that they were able to help Emma with her research and were obviously delighted with the results. Dr Robinson is keen that education should be a big part of the Unit's work "...it is great to see young people taking such an interest in the environment. Emma's project served as a timely reminder to us all of the importance of these top level marine mammals in the marine ecosystem. Lying at the top of the food chain, dolphins serve as key indicators of the health of our marine environment and Emma's project made this very clear - gold star!"

If you need help with a project or course work why not email the CRRU. Maybe we can help you.
