2012 Set-Up Team

2012 Set-Up Team

In addition to our summer field dates, over the last few years we have also been offering a short "working" break for any of our past volunteers to rejoin us in Gardenstown for a week, to help us set-up the research base and accommodations for the summer season ahead and ready the boats for sea etc.

This year we are scheduling this "Set-Up Team" for the week commencing Sun 13th (arrival day) 'til Sat 19th May (departure day). We typically spend the first 3 days (Mon to Weds inclusive) at the boat yard in Macduff, fixing up Orca II and Ketos (work overalls provided), aiming to launch the boats on Thurs for sea trials and our first survey of the year (weather dependant) on Thurs/Fri :-))))))

This is not like a typical field team, and can actually be pretty hard work, though a lot of fun (as always) as well! We WILL have longer evenings together to enjoy catching up, plus LOTS of good food, wine and "song". The Thurs and Fri are also likely to be pretty relaxed with extra down-time if you wish to chill out and do your own thing (after all the hard graft earlier in the week).

Costs? Well, we don't feel we can really ask very much from you, as YOU will be doing most of the work ;-), but a contribution of £125 pp towards boat expenses (we usually do get out at the end of the week and see the animals), rental of the cottage and the very good food and wine cellar we will be providing would be very well-received.

For anyone wishing to join us (and I must admit, it is wonderful to be the first to put the boats back in the water and record the very first cetaceans of the year), please drop me a line to reserve your place on this team!

With all very best wishes from CRRU Thailand, hear from you soon
